Seasonal Changes and Skincare

Your skin is a dynamic organ that changes with the seasons. As the weather shifts from hot and humid to cold and dry, your skin may experience a range of issues, from dryness and flakiness to oiliness and breakouts. Here are some tips to help you adjust your skincare routine to the seasons and keep your skin looking its best year-round.

Winter

Winter weather can be particularly harsh on your skin. The cold air outside and the dry heat inside can lead to dryness, flakiness, and even cracking. To combat these issues, consider incorporating the following into your winter skincare routine:

  • Hydrating cleanser: Look for a gentle cleanser that won’t strip your skin of its natural oils. Consider using a cream or oil-based cleanser that will help lock in moisture.
  • Moisturizer: Choose a rich, emollient moisturizer that will help soothe and hydrate your skin. Look for ingredients like hyaluronic acid, glycerin, and ceramides, which can help keep your skin plump and hydrated.
  • Sunscreen: This should be used year-round. Even when it is cloudy UV rays are still coming through and your skin needs protection.

Spring

As the weather starts to warm up in the spring, you may notice that your skin becomes oilier and more prone to breakouts. To keep your skin looking its best, try incorporating these tips into your spring skincare routine:

  • Lightweight moisturizer: Switch to a lighter moisturizer that won’t clog your pores or leave your skin feeling greasy. Look for a moisturizer that contains salicylic acid, which can help keep your pores clear.
  • Sunscreen: As the days get longer and the sun gets stronger, it’s important to protect your skin from UV damage. Look for a broad-spectrum sunscreen with an SPF of at least 30, and apply it every day.
  • Exfoliator: To help slough off dead skin cells and prevent breakouts, consider using a gentle exfoliator once or twice a week. Look for a product that contains alpha-hydroxy acids (AHAs) or beta-hydroxy acids (BHAs), which can help unclog pores and improve skin texture.

Summer

In the summer, your skin may become more prone to sun damage and dehydration. To keep your skin healthy and glowing, consider incorporating these tips into your summer skincare routine:

  • Lightweight moisturizer: Switch to a lightweight, oil-free moisturizer that won’t leave your skin feeling weighed down. Look for a product that contains antioxidants like vitamin C or green tea, which can help protect your skin from free radical damage.
  • Sunscreen: As mentioned earlier, it’s important to wear sunscreen every day, but it’s especially important during the summer months. Look for a water-resistant sunscreen with an SPF of at least 30, and reapply it every two hours.
  • Hydrating mist: To help keep your skin hydrated throughout the day, consider using a hydrating mist. Look for a product that contains ingredients like aloe vera, chamomile, or rosewater, which can help soothe and hydrate your skin.

Fall

As the weather starts to cool down in the fall, you may notice that your skin becomes drier and more sensitive. To keep your skin looking and feeling its best, try incorporating these tips into your fall skincare routine:

  • Gentle cleanser: Switch to a gentle, non-foaming cleanser that won’t strip your skin of its natural oils. Look for a product that contains soothing ingredients like chamomile or oat extract.
  • Moisturizer: Choose a rich, emollient moisturizer that will help soothe and hydrate your skin. Look for a product that contains ingredients like shea butter or squalane, which can help lock in moisture.
  • Facial oil: To help combat dryness and protect your skin from the elements, consider using a facial oil. Look for a product that contains nourishing ingredients like argan oil or jojoba oil, which can help soothe and hydrate your skin.

A Note from the Owner:

Fall seems to have its very own fan base. And I can’t say I hate it. The leaves changing color, snuggling under the blanket, warming by a fire. So many wonderful associations when thinking of anything fall related. But what if our favorite part of fall isn’t really any of those things…but instead, its secretly our skin. As the weather cools down, the humidity also drops which promotes less oil production and leads to a less shiny appearance. Additionally, dry air can reduce the risk of breakouts by minimizing the clogging of pores. Finally, the transition from summer to fall often involves incorporating richer moisturizers and hydrating ingredients into skincare routines, providing extra nourishment and hydration for the skin. So we look good and we feel good. Thank you fall! ~ Much Love and Health to You! Ronnie
