How to Best Test a New Product

Before incorporating any new product into your skincare routine, it’s important to test it for sensitivity. Even though skincare products are generally safe for most skin types, some people may experience irritation or allergic reactions. Here’s how to do a patch test:

  1. Cleanse your skin with a gentle cleanser and pat it dry.
  2. Apply a small amount of the new product on a small area of your skin, such as the inside bend of your elbow or on the facial skin right in front of your ear.
  3. Wait for 24 hours and observe any signs of redness, itchiness, or swelling.
  4. If you experience any adverse reactions, discontinue use and consult a dermatologist.

If you don’t experience any adverse reactions, you can proceed with using your new product as part of your daily skincare routine. However, if you have very sensitive skin, it’s important to choose products specifically formulated for sensitive skin. Look for products that are labeled as gentle, hypoallergenic, or non-irritating.

Testing for sensitivity is an important step in ensuring that it’s safe and effective for your skin. By performing a patch test and choosing the right product, you can enjoy the benefits of nourished, beautiful, glowing skin.

A note from the owner:

I have been guilty of not following the above recommendation a few times. I get excited about a product and cocky about the ability of my facial skin to perform normally under new circumstances. Luckily, I have not had any major adverse reactions in those instances. One of the reasons the facial skin just in front of your ear is one of the suggestions, is because that skin is going to be exactly like the skin where the product will ultimately go. ~ Much love and health to you!
